Once upon a time, there was a king who had three daughters. He loved them very much and was afraid of losing them. He always got saddened by the thought that these three would leave him one by one after their marriage.
One
day he called his three daughters and asked them, “How much they loved him”. First
of all, he asked the eldest one and asked her, "How much do you love me". She
replied that she loves her father, the most in the world. He then asked the same
question to his second daughter, and she also replied in the same words. After that he
turned to his youngest daughter and asked her the same, she replied, “I love you even
more than the salt.” Hearing this, the king was annoyed and thought that he has
worth equal to that of salt in her third daughter’s eyes. This daughter does
not love him and she should be thrown out of the palace. So the king decided to
arrange her marriage with an ordinary person. King’s daughter was confused about
this and tried her best to prove her love for her father but the king was not
convinced. So the youngest daughter was forced to marry an unknown poor
person. After their marriage, the couple settled in a forest, far away from the king’s palace.
After a few months, the king went to the forest
for his hobby of hunting, with a convoy of his subordinates. He saw a deer and
started chasing it, but couldn’t hunt that. As a result of this effort, he went
far away from his convoy and was alone in the forest. Now he was tired of this
activity and wanted some shelter to take a rest. At the same time, he was too much
thirsty and hungry. He saw a hut in the forest and was relieved to see that
hut. He went inside the hut where a poor man was sleeping. When he saw the king,
he welcomed the king and gave him respect. Actually, this was the hut, where the youngest
daughter of the king was living but the king was unaware of this fact. King’s daughter
didn’t appear in front of her father and prepared a meal for her father. When the meal, with a variety of dishes, was
served in front of the king, it appeared to be very delicious. As the king was
too much hungry he started the food, but couldn’t eat it. The king tasted all
the dishes that were served in front of him, but all were tasteless. He asked
the gentleman, “Why there is no taste in the food”.
At
this time king’s daughter appeared and met her father. She told the king that
all the dishes were properly cooked but only the salt is missing. Then the king
remembered his daughter’s words that she loved the king even more than
the salt. Now the king realized the importance of salt and the reality of his
youngest daughter’s words. The king was ashamed that he didn’t understand the
love of his daughter which is the love in true sense. He comprehended the
purity of his daughter’s love.
